Alex's original README follows:

To install game:

1. Unpack shar files by executing them. If you are reading this, you
have already done that.

2. Change BIN, LIB, MAN, MANEXT, CC, CFLAGS, and LDFLAGS variables at
the beginning of Makefile to correspond to local configuration. Note
that the game levels are in human readable format and can be shared between
architectures.

3. Execute "make install" in the root source directory.

4. Type "man golddig" to understand the game.

5. Have fun, then get back to work.

Send well tested, interesting, worth while, non-abusive, clever levels
to siegel@cs.cornell.edu. They may be released in the next version.
Although, no author attributions will be given. Generate solutions to
all your levels with the -o option and mail it with the level. I will not
use a level if I can not verify that it is solvable.

Solutions to all the published levels are given in the sols directory.
Use the -i option to read them in on the appropriate level. I think
we finally got all the levels to work at the same time. If a solution
is not published for a level, they level may not be solvable.
