To print Japanese by Ghostscript, you should prepare ja-ghostscript,
Japanese fonts and the font driver. I don't know the current port or
package, but I use ja-vfghostscript-4.03 (Alladin Ghostscript 4.03
with Japanese patch using VFlib as the font driver) with Watanabe
font on NEC PC-PR1000EW.
I don't know the package of ja-ghostscript contains the device
driver for HP642C, if not, you also get it and make from the source
code.

Sometimes, Canna detects invalid chars as a word. You can teach
the correct word by C-o and C-i.
If you use the internationalized Widget set supporting XIM, S-space
is often used as the toggle.
