I can't say anything for your question because of no enough information.
To obtain good answers, you need to tell us the following information
at least:
- SCSI or IDE
- Informatin on partitioning
- Manufacturer and model name of your hard disk drive (No need? I'm not sure..)
- Contents of /etc/fstab (No need also?)
- etc.
